While it’s important to visit us for your regular orthodontic treatments, you should also be keeping up with routine dental cleanings and exams, as well. Your dentist will be able to clean your teeth and check for any dental problems, even around your braces.
“Why do I have to get my braces tightened?” is a question we commonly hear from our patients. While it may feel like your braces are tightening around your teeth, we are actually adjusting the wire. It’s important to keep up with these routine adjustments for a number of reasons, including monitoring your teeth to ensure they’re moving into their desired position, and making sure the braces are functioning correctly. Read on to learn more about the importance of keeping up with regular visits.
Orthodontic appliances such as braces and retainers can help straighten teeth and improve misaligned bites. In some cases, however, we recommend jaw surgery, also known as orthognathic surgery, to help dramatically improve skeletal and dental abnormalities and improve the way your jaw functions. The corrections made can also improve your facial appearance.
If you love having healthy and beautiful teeth as much as we do, you’ll be happy to know that February is Children’s Dental Health Month. At The Best Braces, we work hard to provide people of all ages with orthodontic care that will improve both the look and function of their teeth. Good dental health begins at an early age, and if you have children at home or care for children, we have some fun tips on how to teach them the importance of taking care of their dental health, (and we think adults can always use a refresher on the subject, too!).
Clear aligners are an effective solution for straightening crooked and crowded teeth. The most obvious reason people choose this type of treatment is that they are not noticeable, unlike traditional metal braces. Regardless of appearance, there is an adjustment period when you first start wearing aligners. We want to make you aware of common experiences that patients have when they first start wearing aligners.
Are you worried about playing sports now that you have braces? Well, don’t worry — there’s no need to sit out a season of football, softball, hockey or any other sport. Our team here at The Best Braces of Southfield, MI does, however, recommend you take special precautions to avoid damaging your teeth and braces.
We hope you are enjoying the holiday season. Have you thought of any goals you’d like to achieve in 2020? As an orthodontist, there’s one goal we think is especially important for patients who wear braces. Click here to learn more about how to keep your teeth healthy.
Patients don’t typically come to us because they have concerns with a deep bite, also known as an overbite. It may or may not bother patients, but that doesn’t mean a deep bite doesn’t present dental issues.
A deep bite is the most common malocclusion, or bad bite. It occurs when the top teeth excessively overlap the bottom front teeth while the back teeth are closed. It can be caused by a large top jaw, small lower jaw, or missing lower teeth. The good news is that it can be easily corrected with one of many orthodontic and restorative treatments.
As orthodontists, we are mainly concerned with tooth irregularities and bite. Many parents mistakenly think that they should wait until all of their child’s permanent teeth are in to see an orthodontist for the first time. However, waiting too long to see an orthodontist for the first time can be harmful to a child’s oral health development.
