What If I Don’t Get Braces and I Need Them?

What If I Don’t Get Braces and I Need Them?

At The Best Braces, we know that orthodontic treatment is a big commitment, financially and with your precious time. We inspect each potential patient’s mouth thoroughly using various pieces of technology, and we do not make recommendations lightly. If we suggest a treatment plan for you or your family, please know that it is truly needed and will not only improve the esthetic appearance of your smile, but will also benefit your oral health and eliminate the potential for considerable long-term damage to your teeth. If you are having second thoughts about going through with the treatment we recommended, we encourage you to continue reading about the importance of orthodontic treatment.

Forgoing Orthodontic Treatment Can Lead to Oral Health Problems

We know that any orthodontic treatment you choose is going to leave your teeth straight when treatment is complete. Did you know that it also can prevent serious, damaging and uncomfortable issues with your long-term oral health? Here are some issues you might experience if you put off orthodontic treatment:

TMD
When your bite and teeth alignment are not correct, it can lead to problems with your jaw and facial muscles. Over time, these issues can lead to a condition called temporomandibular joint disorder, which can cause headaches, facial discomfort, jaw tenderness, locked jaw, and more.

Recurring Dental Decay
When you are dealing with overcrowding or spacing issues, the likelihood of developing dental decay and needing treatment for cavities increases tremendously. Food particles can become trapped between the teeth, and it can be difficult to fit dental floss between super tight spaces. Eventually, the trapped food will lead to decay and create issues such as cavities. Continuous decay can lead to tooth loss.

If you are interested in learning more about orthodontic treatment for you or a loved one we would love to hear from you. Be sure to contact our office located in Southfield, MI to schedule a consultation. We would also love to hear from you if you are ready to begin treatment after your consultation! We look forward to welcoming you to our The Best Braces family!
