Tips To Help You Prepare For Orthodontic Treatment

No matter your age, preparing for braces can be exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. We see people each and every day who are receiving orthodontic treatment for one reason or another. It is important to remember that each person’s experience is different, so it is best to take any feedback lightly. We want to share some helpful tips that may be useful to you before you start your orthodontic journey. Continue reading to learn about these tips.

Tips to Prepare for Your Orthodontic Treatment

You may experience different emotions when preparing to start orthodontic treatment. We want to share some helpful tips to make the process extremely easy and have you well on your way to straighter teeth:

Stock Up on Supplies
We will explain in great detail the proper way to clean and maintain your hardware. We suggest stocking up on items you may need before you begin treatment. One item in particular that is good to have on hand is orthodontic wax. This can be helpful if something were to break or rub up against your mouth and you were not able to get in immediately to see us.

Prepare Mentally
If you are nervous about starting treatment, be sure to make a list of any questions or concerns you may have. We are more than happy to answer your questions and want you to be comfortable and knowledgeable about your treatment.

Expect Soreness
While this isn’t the best side of orthodontic treatment, you should expect some soreness immediately after starting treatment as well as after an adjustment or after starting new trays. Once you know the feeling and what to expect, it is manageable. Be sure to have some over-the-counter pain relievers on hand during the first few days. It is also a good idea to have your favorite soft foods at home. Some great options are scrambled eggs, macaroni and cheese, oatmeal, and pasta.

We are looking forward to starting this journey with you and can’t wait to see the final results when your treatment is completed — which will happen before you know it! If you have any questions or concerns, we are always here to help! We look forward to seeing you for your next appointment in our office in Southfield, MI. See you soon!
