Importance of Following Treatment Instructions

When you visit our office for your initial consultation and decide to follow through with orthodontic treatment, we will give you important instructions before you start treatment and again once the hardware has been placed. We’ll tell you how to clean your hardware, which foods you can eat and which ones you should avoid, how to care for your hardware should there be an emergency, and more.

Not following our instructions can lead to complications with your treatment. It can also prolong your treatment time and lead to discomfort as well as added expenses. We would hate for you to experience an emergency with your braces or hardware because you didn’t follow our directions. An example is patients who do not wear their retainers as instructed after their braces have been removed. We often see patients back in our office who are seeing their teeth shifting out of place because they did not follow our instructions for wearing their retainer.
