Questions About Braces?

During orthodontic treatment, you or your child may have questions about the care guidelines. We’re here to provide guidance every step of the way. Your compliance with the instructions we give you is vital to receive the best treatment results. We want to make your experience as comfortable as possible and share some information to help you adjust to wearing braces.

Wearing braces gives you more than a beautiful smile or a confidence boost. Orthodontic treatment significantly improves your oral health and reduces the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Here are six things you need to know about wearing braces.

Get a consultation. The consultation appointment is the perfect time to get answers to your questions. During your visit, team members will take x-rays and photographs. We’ll discuss the process of getting braces and what you can expect. Our team will explain your payment options and the next steps.

Have patience. Every orthodontic case is different. You can expect to wear braces between 18 and 24 months. The time length varies based on your individual needs. You’ll achieve the best results if you follow your treatment guidelines.

Change the way you eat. You must avoid certain foods during your treatment time, so you don’t damage your teeth or your braces. Eat healthy meals to get all of your nutrients as you go through treatment. We will give you a list of foods to avoid.

Clean your teeth. Brush and floss several times a day, especially after meals. You don’t want food to get trapped in the brackets or between your teeth, causing bad breath or tooth decay. Keep a dental kit with you to make it easier to practice proper oral hygiene.

Watch out for these things. For several days after your braces are applied and periodically during treatment, you will experience discomfort. Eat soft foods for the first few days as you adjust. When you have loose brackets or wires, let us know as soon as possible.

Treatment is not over. Congratulations, you’ve got your braces removed. Not so fast; you need to wear retainers to maintain your new smile. We will select the correct retainer to suit your needs.

Do you have any friends or family members ready for braces? Have them contact our office to schedule a free consultation.
