It’s Time For Some Spring Cleaning

It’s Time For Some Spring Cleaning

We don’t know about you, but we couldn’t be more thrilled that spring has arrived! The winter always seems very long, and the change of season is much appreciated. Many people use the start of a new season to clear out the winter cobwebs. This is one of the reasons the term “spring cleaning” is so popular. Similar to the cleaning you may do in your home, now is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning to your orthodontic hardware. Continue reading to learn more.

Spring Cleaning Your Orthodontic Hardware

Since the spring season is a popular time for deep cleaning, we thought it would be important to discuss the importance of properly cleaning your orthodontic hardware, whether you have traditional braces, clear aligners, or wear a retainer.

Traditional Braces
If you have traditional metal braces then you know there is a lot to keep clean. Between the brackets, wires, bands, and more, it can be overwhelming to ensure that everything remains clean. Be sure to brush your teeth after each time you eat, at least three times a day. It is also helpful to have an interproximal brush on hand. Don’t forget to carefully floss!

Clear Aligners
Although food cannot get trapped in the aligners, they still need to be cleaned daily. Cleaning the trays will help eliminate bacterial buildup and help prevent bad breath.

Retainers
Retainers also need to be cleaned daily. Please follow our cleaning instructions based on the type of retainer you have.

Invest in a Mouth Guard

Spring is a time when many sports restart. If you got braces during the winter and you play a spring sport, it is a great time to make an investment in a mouth guard. Wearing a mouth guard will ensure that your hardware will remain intact and not cause damage to your mouth if you should have an accident.

If you have any questions about how to properly clean your orthodontic hardware or are interested in making an investment in a mouth guard, be sure to contact our office located in Southfield, MI. We want to help keep your mouth safe this spring!
