How To Handle A Braces Emergency

Are you or a loved one currently receiving orthodontic care in our office? If so, then you have learned all the ins and outs about caring for your orthodontic hardware. No matter how careful you may be, it is important to remember that accidents can happen at any time. The hardware that we provide is not indestructible, and we know that things can happen at any point in time. No matter what happens to your hardware, it is extremely important that you contact our office as soon as possible to avoid complications with your treatment plan. Read on to learn more.

Contact Us in an Emergency

We know that an accident can happen at any time. However, as soon as you notice something is broken or doesn’t seem right with your orthodontic hardware, contact us as soon as possible. A broken bracket or wire not only negatively affects your treatment, but it can also be harmful to your mouth. If you have a broken wire or a bracket that is causing damage to your lip or cheek, be sure to use some wax until you can come to our office.

Call Us If You Lose Your Hardware

If you are a patient who is currently wearing clear aligners or using a retainer, and your hardware becomes lost, contact us as soon as possible. Teeth can quickly shift, and we would hate for your teeth to move out of their current placement while you wait for your next appointment. If you lose your clear aligners, it is important to contact us so we can direct you to your next step. Just as a friendly reminder, always store your trays or retainers in a safe place while eating and cleaning your teeth. Never wrap anything in a tissue or napkin.

If you realize that your orthodontic hardware is broken or you have lost your retainer or clear aligner trays, be sure to contact our office, which is located in Southfield, MI, as soon as possible. The longer you go without the proper hardware, the longer your treatment will be delayed. We look forward to seeing you at your next appointment!
