Complications A Bite Problem Can Cause

At The Best Braces, we have a number of orthodontic treatments that can improve not only the aesthetics of your teeth but the state of your oral health as well. We want to help patients improve issues with their oral health that may be impacting their daily lives or leading to serious problems with their oral health in the future. One problem that patients may not realize can affect their oral health is an issue with their bite and the alignment of their teeth.

What is Bite?

Bite refers to the way the upper and lower jaws and teeth come together. A bad bite is when the teeth do not line up properly or, in some serious cases, do not meet at all. Over time, bite problems that are not corrected with orthodontic care can lead to complications with your oral health. We can treat children, teens, and adults who are suffering from a number of bite issues.

Problems Caused by Bite Issues

Uneven Wear of the Teeth
When teeth do not line up properly, it can cause the teeth to rub together in a way that will damage the tooth enamel. When this occurs, it is not uncommon for patients to experience problems such as tooth sensitivity or cracked or broken teeth.

Recurring Tooth Decay
Certain bite issues can make it difficult to properly clean the teeth, resulting in food and bacteria remaining trapped between the teeth. This will lead to the need for dental treatments. Unfortunately, if this problem is not fixed, the issues will continue to occur until the tooth eventually needs to be replaced.

Jaw and Facial Discomfort
Bite issues can lead to discomfort in the jaw and facial muscles. It is not uncommon for adults with bite problems to develop temporomandibular joint disorder.

If you are concerned that you are experiencing issues with your bite, and you are located in Southfield, MI or the surrounding area, be sure to contact our office to schedule an appointment. We will be happy to create the necessary treatment plan for you to get results that will improve your life.
