Braces for Adults? Bring Them On!

Braces for Adults? Bring Them On!

Braces for Adults? Bring Them On!

Braces aren’t just for kids anymore. Thanks to advancements in orthodontic treatments and a trend toward health and wellness, more and more adults are opting in for this common and effective treatment for crooked teeth and misaligned bites.

While childhood is the optimal time to reposition teeth, adult teeth and bites can be corrected. It’s important to set expectations, however, and keep in mind that since adult bones stop growing, surgery might be necessary to make structural changes.

Voted Most Popular

It’s no surprise that braces are the most commonly used orthodontic appliance, as they can correct a number of issues. They can straighten teeth, line up jaws to improve the bite, make room for overcrowded teeth, and close gaps between teeth.

Options

Braces have come a long way. They are more comfortable than in the past, with several options to choose from based on your teeth as well as lifestyle.

Metal braces: Metal brackets are attached to the front of each tooth and wire connects them together. The wire is adjusted every four to six weeks, which slowly moves your teeth and jaw into place. Treatment time is different for each patient, but typically it lasts from 18 months to three years.

Ceramic braces: If you don’t like the metal look, ceramic braces are an option. The brackets are tooth-colored or clear plastic.

Clear aligners: Clear aligners are trays that are customized to your teeth and can be taken out to eat and brush and floss. Trays are swapped out as your teeth move into place. Clear aligners are often chosen because they are clear and virtually unnoticeable, unlike braces.

If you’re considering braces for aesthetic or functional reasons, please contact our office to set up an appointment to discuss your options. It’s not too late to have the smile of your dreams!
