When Is It The Right Time To Visit The Orthodontist?
Are you considering braces for yourself or a loved one? If so, you might be wondering when is a good time to visit the orthodontist. The easiest answer is whenever you have a question about your bite, or alignment of the teeth. However, the answer truly is more complicated than that. There are times, especially for young children, when bite and jaw issues aren’t as obvious as when children enter adolescence or even adulthood. We also hear from adults interested in orthodontic care who feel like they are too old to visit us for a consultation.
What Age is Best For a Visit?
We welcome children, adolescents, and adults of any age to our practice. We typically see children around the age of seven; however, if you have a child that is older, do not panic that they have not had an evaluation yet. When alignment issues are detected at an early age, we like to use a two-phase treatment method that first fixes the issues with the jaw and then moves onto correcting the placement of the teeth with braces. With the two-phase system, there is typically a gap of time between treatment where the adult teeth are moving into the correct placement. When we see older children or teens, we still provide the same treatment, but the treatment time is continuous, with no break, as the adult teeth have typically grown in.
If you are an adult who is interested in orthodontic care, you are always welcome in our office. For your convenience, we have many features that are perfect for a busy adult on the go. We now offer no-wait traditional braces that can shorten treatment time. If you are interested in clear aligners, we offer same day clear aligners that we manufacture in our office. Be sure to ask about our convenient virtual consultations.
