Important Words of Advice for First-Time Braces
Wearing braces is a unique experience, and since each patient has a specific plan customized to their needs, not everyone will experience the same results after the braces are placed. It is safe to say that each patient will have a transition period in learning what braces feel like and what they can expect during treatment. Before leaving the office, it is important that you or your loved ones understand the tools needed and the proper cleaning techniques to care for your braces.
What to Eat
Each patient experiences a different level of tenderness after having braces for the first time. One important thing to remember is that eating may be tricky for the first few days and days following any adjustments. We suggest sticking to a diet consisting of soft foods such as pasta, yogurt, grilled cheese, soup, applesauce, ice cream, and pudding.
Dealing With Discomfort
It’s not uncommon to feel some discomfort for the first few days. It is important to remember that it is only temporary and can be eased with an over the counter pain reliever. The inside of your lips and cheeks also need to adjust to the new hardware in your mouth. You might experience some irritation that can be remedied with the use of dental wax.
