Steps Involved In Orthodontic Treatment
At The Best Braces, we love helping our patients on the journey to straight teeth. Orthodontic treatment can bring about many positive changes to your oral health and your life. When considering orthodontic treatment, it can be a little intimidating if you are not familiar with the process. Here are the steps of the process from start to finish:
Initial Consultation
When you visit our office for your initial consultation, we take various steps to get a clear picture of your teeth and jaw placement. We will also discuss what you are looking to achieve with orthodontic treatment. This is when we take X-rays of your teeth, head, and neck. This is a great opportunity for you to ask questions about our practice.
Treatment Plan
After you decide to proceed with orthodontic treatment, we will review the plan we created for you. We will explain the orthodontic hardware we recommend, the reason for the hardware, and the expected length of treatment.
Placement of Orthodontic Hardware
Once you have approved the treatment plan, we will place the hardware. This may include traditional metal braces, clear aligners, a pallet expander, or other devices. Once the hardware is placed, we will thoroughly explain how to care for everything and clean your teeth. It may take a few days to get adjusted to the feeling of the hardware in your mouth.
Adjustment and Monitoring
During your treatment, we will require a number of visits to the office to make any necessary adjustments. These visits are used to monitor your progress and see how your teeth and jaw are handling the shifting. We will also address any issues or complications that arise with treatment.
Maintenance
After your treatment is completed, you will move into maintenance. For many patients, this will require a retainer. A retainer is designed to hold the teeth in their new placement and prevent them from shifting. We will recommend a series of maintenance appointments to check on your teeth.
