Eating With New Braces
At The Best Braces, we know that it can be a transition for patients who are wearing braces for the first time. The first few days are going to be an adjustment. Not only do you have to get used to having something on all of your teeth, but there is also the discomfort of the braces starting to do their job. We recommend planning ahead and having foods available that will be a comfort during this time of adjustment. These foods can also be handy after an adjustment to your braces when you may be feeling some discomfort for a few days. Here are some food suggestions for meals:
Breakfast
It is always important to start the first meal of the day with healthy foods. We suggest choosing foods that are quick and easy to prepare. One suggestion is to try a smoothie. A smoothie is a great way to pack your morning with plenty of fruits and vegetables, and the best part is nothing has to be chewed. Scrambled eggs are also a favorite soft food option. Cereal can also be good if you let it sit for a minute or two to become soft.
Lunch
Again, you want to look for foods that are soft or extremely easy to chew that also have protein and plenty of nourishment. Lunch meat rolled up or on soft sandwich bread can be a great choice. We also recommend trying peanut butter and jelly, yogurt, cottage cheese with fruit, and hummus.
Dinner
You are going to want to avoid any tough meat. Dinner choices can include fish, mashed potatoes, rice, soup, and steamed vegetables. Pasta is also a great choice because it can be customized based on the sauce you enjoy.
Snacks
We can’t forget to include some favorite soft, sweet snacks. Many patients enjoy eating pudding, ice cream, and jello.
It is important to remember that your discomfort is only temporary. You will be able to enjoy your favorite foods once again when your mouth adjusts to your braces. If you have any questions or experience an emergency, be sure to contact our office located in Southfield, MI. We are here to help!
