With the popularity of clear aligners increasing, we want to share some common dos and don’ts to ensure that your treatment progresses as expected. We would hate for a complication to affect your treatment plan and lead to significant problems. Read on to learn more.
Dos and Don’ts When Wearing Clear Aligners
We are happy to offer patients same-day in-house clear aligners. If you are unfamiliar, clear aligners are a series of removable trays that slowly transition the teeth into the proper alignment. We know that patients appreciate that they can visit our office and leave with clear aligners in hand, ready to start treatment. The best way to ensure that you have a positive experience with clear aligners is to follow our instructions. Here are some dos and don’ts that can help you:
Do Clean Your Teeth Before Putting Clear Aligners In Your Mouth
It is important that you brush and floss your teeth before placing your clear aligners in your mouth. It can be easy for food and bacteria to become trapped in the aligners. This can not only cause problems with decay, but it can also lead to recurring issues with bad breath.
Do Wear Your Aligners as Recommended
To get the most out of the treatment plan we devise for you, it is important to wear the aligners as we recommend. Because the aligners are removable, we know that patients can choose when to wear them, and if they are out of the mouth for too long each day, treatment will not be effective.
Don’t Snack Frequently
Clear aligners need to be removed for eating. If you are someone who snacks frequently throughout the day, it will be best to transition to eating only at mealtimes. As mentioned above, the treatment is most effective when the aligners are worn for the correct amount of time each day.
Don’t Wrap Clear Aligners in Napkins
When you remove your aligners for eating, drinking, and brushing your teeth, be sure that you are storing the aligners properly in a case. Wrapping aligners in a napkin is an easy way for them to accidentally get thrown in the trash.
