3 Ways To Make Your Braces Less Noticeable
At The Best Braces, our goal is to help our patients straighten their teeth using the treatment method that is best for the outcome that we are trying to achieve. For many patients, traditional metal braces are the best treatment plan. Although it is not uncommon to see individuals of all ages wearing braces while out and about, it is not always something that patients are thrilled to have on their teeth. For patients who are self-conscious about the appearance of their braces, we want to share some helpful tips to make your braces less noticeable:
Keep Your Teeth Clean
One of the best ways to make your braces less noticeable is to be sure that your brackets and wires remain clean, especially after eating. It is very easy for food to become trapped and lodged in braces. This can be unsightly and lead to damage and future problems with decay. It is ideal for patients to brush after eating, but we know that is not always possible. If you are not able to brush, visibly inspect for food that may be trapped and use water to rinse and loosen the food. You can then use a small brush or tool to remove any food you can.
Choose Neutral Color Bands
If you are self-conscious about your braces, we would recommend choosing a neutral-colored band to go around the brackets. Although it is fun to color coordinate for holidays or get your favorite color, having brightly colored bands will draw more attention to your braces. If you are not looking for that, we recommend choosing a color, such as gray, that will blend in with the brackets and wires.
Smile Without Teeth
We have patients who are extremely self-conscious about the appearance of braces. These patients refuse to smile and show their hardware. While we want everyone to be proud of their teeth and show them off at every stage, we know that some of our patients are not comfortable with that. We encourage these patients to smile with a closed mouth without showing their teeth or braces. This is not natural for most people, so you may have to practice.
